Chapter 6
Taken
Things were going alright and Kord and I had gotten closer. I’d been worried though about people seeming to follow me or lurking around where I was. Paranoid lately? That’s what I was putting it down to. I didn’t want to behave crazy. No one had tried to grab me so what did it all mean? When Kord was around no oddballs hid near the shadows.
Was it my imagination? Maybe. I had to look at that possibility before I went to Jim to ask for help. I took a picture of this goofy guy who hung around a lot lately and sent it to myself. Later I would look at it. For now I went to class and sat through the last one. I saw the weird guy near my SUV as I walked toward it.
“Hey, what are you doing over there?” My phone was calling my dad. I started to open my door as my dad said hi.
The guy grabbed me and I screamed loud and long. He pressed something into my neck and I went out. It was later that I woke feeling rough as hell. Thank God it was Friday and I had two days to escape. If I did I wouldn’t miss any classes. Too focused? Could you be too focused on your future?
I stayed leaned back in the seat watching to take a guess where I was. My guess, headed north. The two males in front were talking low and I barely made out two words. One of the guys looked back then turned to the front again as they continued their talk.
They stopped at a gas station which I thought might be a chance to escape but I was restrained. “Hey, Sweetheart. We are good at what we do. Want to escape? Wait until we drop you off.” One of the guys had come back or never left.
“Ariel will get you.”
“She might try, but once you’re mated, it’s no longer a crime.” He explained.
“It will be once he’s dead because he wasn’t my fated one.” I pointed out.
The other guy was back now. “We’ll deal with that if it happens.” The other guy said.
They got back on the road headed to wherever they were going. That left me in the back with nothing to do but think. Maybe things should have moved quicker with Kord. If we were mated these guys would have left me be. Of course one of my cousins would have been targeted instead. I didn’t feel good about that.
This felt pretty bad too. These guys were taking me to a buyer. What was I, a piece of meat to buy and sell? That made me angry. I wish I had some of Ariel’s abilities and could fight these guys. Instead I sat in the back feeling lost and alone. Maybe I fell asleep because my eyes opened as we pulled into a parking spot.
“This her?” A guy asked.
“It is.” One of the guys who caught me said. Pulling me out of their car, he took off my restraints and pushed me into the back seat of another car.
